Philip Gorrivan designs with “an eye towards the future and
a foot in the past”. His interiors speak to the importance of
balance; antiques are delicately paired with contemporary
furnishings, symmetry is enhanced by a touch of whimsy,
and soft tonal palates are highlighted by signature pops of
color. Clients praise Gorrivan’s ability to enliven a room;
“he adds glamour with just a coat of gloss or with one well
chosen piece.” Additionally, Philip states, “Using traditional
color, texture or furnishings in an unexpected way inspires
an ideal room, one that is tailored, full of contrast, and above
all very comfortable.”
Combining his background in both the arts and business,
Philip Gorrivan has the breadth of knowledge, experience
and ability to turn a client’s vision into reality. The visual
training from his art history and decorative arts studies give
Gorrivan the intuition to spot important items for sophisticated
environments. With a strong personal interest in mid 20th
Century furniture, decorative arts and a sharp eye for color,
Philip’s interiors are both striking and inviting.
Prior to opening his own firm, Philip brought his extensive
business and project management experience to Eric Cohler
as a senior designer. His career in management at companies
such as Hearst Publishing and JP Morgan Chase has trained
him in the facets of running a business and the importance
of completing a project in a timely fashion and on budget.
The powerful combination of design and business skills
has been a tremendous catalyst to Gorrivan’s business
and has quickly given him a strong reputation among his
clients and vendors.
Aside from his design work, Philip is involved with several
charities in New York City including The Frick Collection,
DIFFA, The NY Botanical Garden, Save Venice, The Lenox
Hill Neighborhood House and the Kips Bay Boys and Girls
Club. Philip resides with his wife and two children in Carnegie
Hill and Litchfield County, Connecticut.
