Philip Gorrivan designs with an eye towards the future with a nod to the past.
His signature encompasses a "classic life" with an "unexpected style". While the components may sometimes include antiques, the result is fresh and current : symmetrical, tailored arrangements, attention to open space and the careful balance of soft and bright colors. Clients praise Gorrivan's ability to liven up a room, saying he adds "glamour with just a coat of gloss or one well-chosen piece".
Before opening his firm in 2001, Gorrivan spent time in the business world, including publishing and venture capital. His business background has given him the experience to understand the importance of delivering projects on a timely basis and within a set budget.
Philip has participated in numerous designer showhouses over the past several years, including the 2008 Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse in New York City, the Hampton Designer Showhouse in 2006 and 2004, the Showhouse of New Jersey in 2005, the Showhouse to benefit the American Hospital in Paris in 2005 and the 2007 HC&G Idea House in Amagansett, NY.
The firm's work has been featured in numerous magazines, newspapers, websites, as well as radio and television. This includes The New York Times, House and Garden, Elle Décor, House Beautiful, Traditional Home, Real Simple, New York Spaces, Cottages and Gardens publications, New York Social Diary, CNN, Martha Stewart Radio and 1st Dibs.com In 2007 Philip was chosen as one of House and Garden's top tastemakers and featured as such in the 2007 issue. Most recently, Philip has appeared in several segments for LXTV's Open House "Rescue Me" and "Square Feet"
In January 2008, Philip launched his first designer fabric collection in conjunction with the Highland Court Division of Duralee, entitled Philip Gorrivan for Highland Court. The collection has gotten much praise in the media, including The New York Times, House Beautiful and Traditional Home. He will be launching his second fabric collection for Highland Court in January '11 , as well as line of rugs for Tufenkian Carpets.
Philip resides in Manhattan with his family in an apartment in Carnegie Hill and in Litchfield County, CT. He is involved in several charities in New York City, including the Frick Collection, DIFFA, Save Venice, The New York Botanical Garden, The Lenox Hill Neighborhood House and the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club.
Philip's design philosophy is perfectly described when he says "I see every project as a unique reflection of my clients needs; for me a successful project is one that bears my client's signatures, not mine"
